WinCan Map VX — GIS mapping for sewer inspection data
WinCan Map VX helps asset teams map, navigate and analyse sewer inspection data inside a fast, purpose-built GIS viewer. It accepts common GIS formats, colour-codes assets by condition or attributes, integrates two-ways with WinCan VX, and exports what you select for drafting and planning.
What is WinCan Map VX?
WinCan Map VX is GIS mapping software for turning CCTV inspection data into clear, interactive maps. It links every mapped object to its corresponding asset or observation in WinCan VX, so engineers can move seamlessly between spatial context and inspection detail.
Who uses WinCan Map VX?
-
Municipal asset managers who need fast visualisation and reliable exports for design and planning.
-
Contractors and consultants who want to standardise map templates across projects.
-
Engineers and reviewers who benefit from two-way navigation between maps and inspection footage.
Why teams choose WinCan Map VX
-
Frictionless formats: Works with ESRI, MapInfo, DXF/DWG and OSM without conversion.
-
Actionable visuals: Colour-coded views that reveal risk and priority at a glance.
-
Integrated workflow: Two-way link with WinCan VX to cut time from review to report.
-
Export ready: DXF/Shapefile outputs for drafting and GIS systems.
Which GIS data formats does it accept?
WinCan Map VX accepts ESRI data, AutoCAD DXF/DWG, MapInfo and OpenStreetMap layers. That means you can bring in the base maps and layers your council or contractor already uses without conversion.
How does WinCan Map VX visualise and template asset data?
The viewer colour-codes pipes, nodes and features by material, age, profile or damage classes. You can save your preferred display as a template and apply it across projects, with standard templates available to speed up onboarding.
How are laterals detected and exported?
During mainline inspections, WinCan Map VX infers lateral connections and stores their location, angle and clock position. You can then export those laterals to DXF or Shapefile for drafting, design and downstream GIS use.
Can I geolocate unknown assets with GPS?
Yes. WinCan Map VX accepts coordinates directly from a GPS unit, letting field teams pin unknown or newly discovered assets to the map with minimal data entry.
How does it integrate with WinCan VX?
Integration is two-way. Selecting a pipe or point on the map highlights the same asset or observation in WinCan VX, and selecting an item in VX locates it on the map. This removes context switching and reduces errors in review, coding and reporting.
How quickly can it handle large projects?
The mapping engine is optimised for scale. It renders thousands of objects with minimal delay, so planners can filter, zoom and select without waiting on sluggish redraws.
How do I transfer data from the map into WinCan VX?
Simply drag-select the sections you need on the map to send them into WinCan VX for processing. There’s no double handling—mapped selections become the working set inside VX.
Related module: What is WinCan Analyst?
WinCan Analyst is an add-on for evaluating, managing and analysing sewer networks. It automates condition classification, supports GIS-based analysis, and produces reports and maintenance plans. If you need deeper planning tools, learn more about WinCan Analyst on its dedicated page.
