What is the epros® DrainPacker sectional repair system?
The epros® DrainPacker sectional repair system is a point-repair method for wastewater and sewer pipes that uses silicate resins and CRF+ glass fibre. It bonds to vitrified clay, plastic and steel, performs in hot and cold conditions, and is available in sizes from DN 35 to DN 1200. Repairs are installed with an inflatable packer positioned at the defect and cured in place.
- Sizes: DN 35–1200 (approx. 1.4″–47″)
- Typical ambient cure: ~1–3 hours
- Service life: 50+ years (10,000-hour test)
- VOC-free; minimal shrinkage (<0.6%)
- Self-extinguishing when cured
- Independently tested: IKT (DE), WRc (UK)
- Conforms to: ASTM / WIS / DIN EN; DIBt approval
- Packer families: FlexPacker, HLPacker, SPacker, LPacker
What problems does DrainPacker fix?
DrainPacker is designed for localised defects such as cracks, infiltration, exfiltration, displaced joints and small voids in gravity wastewater and sewer lines. It restores structural integrity and watertightness without full-length relining. Use it when defects are isolated and access is possible from a single entry point.
How does the DrainPacker sectional repair method work?
A glass-fibre reinforced patch pre-impregnated with silicate resin is wrapped around an inflatable packer. The packer is pulled or pushed to the defect, centred with wheels or guides, and inflated to press the patch against the host pipe. After curing (often ~1–3 hours at ambient), the packer is deflated and removed, leaving a structurally bonded, smooth inner surface.
What are the key benefits?
Entity → Attribute → Value bullets:
- Resin system → VOCs → Styrene-free / VOC-free
- Resin system → Shrinkage → <0.6% after cure
- System → Temperature performance → Reliable in hot and cold conditions
- System → Fire behaviour → Self-extinguishing once cured
- Operations → Installation time → Rapid return to service (often same day)
- Compatibility → Pipe materials → Bonds to vitrified clay, plastic and steel; tight fit to HDPE
- Durability → Service life → 50+ years (10,000-hour test)
- Compliance → Testing/approval → IKT, WRc; conforms to ASTM, WIS, DIN EN; DIBt approval
Which packer models and sizes are available?
-
FlexPacker
DN range: DN 100–1200
Max repair length options: approx. 560–4630 mm (model-dependent)
Notes: Flexible body; adjustable wheel-sets; optional bypass on most sizes (not DN 100/150); low maintenance. -
HLPacker (House Lateral)
DN range: DN 35–200
Max repair length options: approx. 210–4710 mm (model-dependent)
Notes: Highly flexible for bends; pull-in-place or push-in-place; no wheel-set/bypass. -
SPacker (Short)
DN range: DN 100–700
Max repair length options: ~605–670 mm
Notes: Rigid construction; larger service flows during works; adjustable wheel-sets; bypass model available. -
LPacker (Long)
DN range: DN 200–800
Max repair length options: approx. 200–4565 mm
Notes: Lightweight, highly flexible; pull or push methods; special/oversize models on request. -
Accessories and variants
Air push rods and flexible adapters with couplers and retaining rings (single access point installation).
Egg-shaped packers available on request.
What standards, tests and approvals does it meet?
- IKT test (Gelsenkirchen, DE)
- WRc testing (UK)
- Conforms to ASTM / WIS / DIN EN standards
- DIBt approval
- 10,000-hour durability test supporting 50+ year service life
When should I choose sectional repair instead of full-length relining?
- Defect is localised (e.g., a single crack, leaking joint, spot deformation).
- Host pipe otherwise serviceable; no continuous degradation along run.
- Access is available from a single entry; minimal disruption required.
- Budget or time constraints favour rapid, targeted remediation.
What installation equipment and accessories are needed?
Packer body sized to the host pipe, adjustable wheel-sets (where applicable), centring guides, optional bypass models, air push rods and flexible adapters with couplers and retaining rings, and standard CCTV/locating equipment for positioning and QA.
