From Inspection to Intelligence: why inspection is only half the job

WinCan is coming to Australia this November. Here is why it matters for asset owners and contractors.

Ask most people to picture a pipe inspection and they see the truck, the crawler and the camera entering the pipe.

But the inspection is only one part of the process. Before the camera goes in, someone has decided what to inspect, prepared the project and issued the work. After it comes out, the footage is transferred, coded, reviewed, quality checked, reported and reconciled with the owner’s records. Only then does the information reach the people who decide whether an asset is monitored, repaired or replaced.

That is where I believe the biggest opportunities sit in our industry today.

Where the hidden work sits

Workflows drift over time. A spreadsheet solves one problem. A USB drive solves another. Asset IDs get re-keyed by hand, and a single wrong character can make an excellent inspection hard to trace back to the right pipe.

None of this means a process is wrong. Often, it simply means we don’t know what we don’t know.

A common example: an asset owner engages an investigation contractor, then a relining contractor, then a final inspection. Three separate projects. One asset. The same core data entered three times.

How WinCan connects the workflow

WinCan is the inspection reporting software behind the SECA CCTV range, and its capability goes well beyond capturing and coding footage. Used to its full potential, it helps to:

  • Build projects from existing GIS data, so asset information is entered once and carried through accurately
  • Keep one history per asset, so inspection and rehabilitation records follow the asset, not the contractor
  • Move completed work from field to office through the cloud with WinCan WebFlex, so QA starts sooner
  • Share results easily, with a link to view, print and download, and a free viewer for clients
  • Use AI-assisted coding, where WinCan AI proposes and experienced people review and approve

Paired with iPEK inspection technology (Rovion, Agilios, QV360 and QVAir), different applications can use different cameras without needing completely different information workflows.

For asset owners, that means more consistent, traceable information and earlier visibility of completed work. For contractors, it means less preparation and re-keying, faster QA and a shorter path from finishing field work to invoicing.

Improve the workflow before adding AI

AI is an important part of this conversation, but it should not be the starting point. AI adds another layer of efficiency on top of a strong workflow. It does not fix a weak one.

WinCan AI is best thought of as a coding assistant, not a replacement. It reduces repetitive effort so your most skilled people can focus where their expertise matters most.

Hear it directly from the people who build it

This November, SECA is proud to host WinCan Uncovered: From Inspection to Intelligence, presented with our partners from WinCan & IPEK.

We will be joined by Steve Peregrine & Roger Roesselet from the WinCan International team and Rico Henning from IPEK , who will share first-hand where the technology is heading and how Australian teams can get more from it.

Having the people who develop this technology in the room with Australian asset owners and contractors is a rare opportunity. I encourage you to bring your real-world questions and your pinch points.

Sessions run 8.30am to 1.00pm, with morning tea provided:

  • NSW: Tuesday 24 November 2026, The William Inglis Hotel – MGallery South West Sydney
  • VIC: Wednesday 25 November 2026, The Business Centre, Collins Square, Melbourne
  • QLD: Thursday 26 November 2026, Royal QLD Golf Club, Eagle Farm

You can expect:

  • First-hand insights from the WinCan International team
  • A closer look at WinCan products and capabilities
  • Practical inspection and reporting workflows
  • Advanced data and reporting solutions
  • A deep dive into WinCan AI
  • Time to speak directly with WinCan, SECA and iPEK specialists

The question worth asking

The goal is not technology for technology’s sake. It is a better inspection workflow that produces better information for everyone involved.

So the question I would leave you with is this: what does great look like for your inspection workflow?

Places are limited. Register at HERE or contact your local SECA representative on 1800 028 584.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Managing Director, SECA
